If you're looking at being able to get out for after work runs, it's not the most ideal spot, but it's not bad either.  For overall access for weekend runs, north end of Seattle, South Snohomish Co is a great location. It puts you within an hour drive of a lot of great rivers in several different basins.

https://www.nps.gov/olym/learn/news/elwha-valley-closed-to-public-access-when-construction-to-begin-july-25.htm

Road repairs have begun with estimated completion in Oct. 2016. The damage is on Olympic Hot Springs Rd. which is past the turnoff for Whiskey Bend and the trailhead for the Grand Canyon. Frustrating the NPS closed the road at the park entrance effectively closing the entire Valley. But, relieved to hear construction has started and nothing is lost.
