After the mormon pioneers settled in this area in the late 1800's, Amasa and Feenie Barton ran a trading post here. An interesting account happened in 1887 here; a shootout erupted between the Barton's and some Navajos when an argument over some jewelry went down. Amasa was shot in the head and a Navajo was shot. Both died.
