Description

When the water is running, this is a stretch of river that is worth skipping out on work, school, or whatever to float it.  To really enjoy this run you should plan on spending plenty of time to hike many of the side canyons.

Obstacles will include thick brush and vegetation on the banks, possible wood, shallows, and rock navigation.  This run is designated as a class III run but the whitewater isn't what brings people to the Escalante.

Getting off the river involves 2 options.  Hiking out with your gear at Coyote Gulch or paddling/boat shuttle out on Lake Powell.  If you are using inflatable kayaks, hiking out may be an option.  If you have hard shell kayaks or canoes it is unlikely you will be able to get up the crack in the wall trail to the top of Coyote Gulch trailhead.
