Description
In the spring time the Chalk Creek valley above Coalville, UT is a green scenic ranch valley. The creek basin drains some of the western slopes of the remaining Uintahs. If you are in Salt Lake or vicinity looking for a nice relaxing run, this stretch of creek should be on your todo list. You could also hit this run if you are on your way to or from the Weber River (Hen-Tag) section.
Put in where the south fork creek merges with Chalk Creek. You can put in above here as the road follows the creek most of the way. Scout it and decide where you want to start out. A section of class II water flows from the confluence of the South Fork will take you down to a small narrows section. Pull over before the narrows and do a quick scout if you aren't familiar with it. Chances are it will run fine but you don't want to be surprised by any logjams or manmade hazards like fencing or diversion dams and dozen or riverbank junk cars. Take out anywhere below the narrows or float all the way into Coalville, UT.
The season and flows is short for this creek so hit it when its running and don't worry about when its not.
Please respect ranch and private land in this valley. Park out of the way on the main chalk creek road and be considerate of where you put-in and take-out.
As of 05/13/2019 - ran at 265cfs /TandemDucky - There are 2 manditory portages w/ barbed wire fences across the creek. Fairly easy portage on river right.
