Description

This is another good beginner kayak run unless the river is at high water or flooding.  The scenery is scenic mixed with mainly class II rapids with a few class III's mixed in.

Rapids

# Rapid Class Recommended flow Description Scout
1 Holy Roller II+ to III —–—

This is the first rapid from the water plant put in.  It gets its name because it flows right next the Christian high school.

Read and run

2 I-70 Rapid II+ to III 5,000–—

Scout from US HWY 6

3 Dead Cow II+ to III 5,000–—

No easy scout, run it center and look for the mini hole near the top.

4 Rodeo Rapid III- to IV- 5,000–—

So named due to proximity to the Fairgrounds and Rodeo. Three drops, some may surf at good flows. Little to no eddy access makes it a poor park'n'play.

Scout when dropping off shuttle from the recycling center.

5 Dead Cow II+ to III 5,000–—

No easy scout, run it center and look for the mini hole near the top.

6 Trestle Rapid II+ to III+ 3,200–—

The start of the rapid is marked by passing under the low railroad trestle. The trestle is basically unpassable at flows over around 3200 CFS.

Scouting this rapid from HWY 6 is technically illegal, as it is all private land on either side of the river. From the river, you can stop river right directly above the trestle, and walk up the short hill onto the trestle itself and have a look.
