Description
This is a quasi-interesting run if you are in the area. This run is mostly class I and II with a few diversion dams and a class III here or there. For the most part it is a good beginner kayak run. All of the obstacles like the diversion dams can be portaged. Here you mainly need to be watchful of barb-wire fences and livestock.
At lower flows you will scrape bottom and higher flows will make it pushier and more appropriate for intermediate boaters.
Rapids
| # | Rapid | Class | Recommended flow | Description | Scout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dam Rapid | II+ to III | 600–1,200 | There is a fairly long rocky section just below the first diversion dam. At low flows this is a pinball rock dodge section. Higher flows would be worth scouting a good line through and watching if/where any holes might appear. |
Scout when you portage the dam. |
| 2 | Boulder Dam Rapid | II+ to III | 600–1,200 | Eventually the river makes a small left hand turn. At the apex of this turn is a built up boulder dam. Look at running far left. Below here is a long stretch of boulders and rocks. At low water this will be incredibly boney through here. |
Scout from river left if you have any doubts. |
Access
| Type | Name | Elevation | Camping | Water | Boat ramp | Vehicle access | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Put-In | Hwy 132 Bridge | 4,854 Feet | No | No | No | All Vehicles | Take Highway 132 west out of Nephi, UT. In about 20 miles or so you will cross the Sevier River. Immediately after crossing the river their is a decent size dirt parking lot and put in area on the East of Hwy 132 |
| Take-Out | Tamarix Road Bridge | 4,709 Feet | No | No | No | All Vehicles | In Leamington Ut on Highway 132, turn north onto Tamarix road and take out where the bridge crosses the river. Since this is surrounded by private property, you may be best leaving your shuttle car on the highway and walking out from the bridge (which is not that far). |
