Description

The middle provo runs through the Heber valley between the dam release of Jordanelle reservoir and the inlet to Deer Creek reservoir.  There are multiple access point for the river since this area is fairly well populated.  Make sure to use appropriate access points and avoid private land so this run can remain freely accessible to anglers and river runners.

Since this stretch of river is running through a valley it is not very technical and shallow in many places as it winds it's way towards Provo Canyon.  Keep an eye out for manmade hazards and tree and limb debree.  Unless you catch this run at a very high water flow it's not going to be too pushy so you will have plenty of time to manuever or get out of the water if you need to.

As far as rapids and wild whitewater, this is probably not the run for you (Go further downstream for the Bridal Veil section for something a little more exciting).  However, if you are a beginner or someone wanting to work on skills this is a suitable run.  The middle provo also runs through one of the most scenic valleys in UT with backside views of Mount Timpanogus to the southwest.

Access

Type Name Elevation Camping Water Boat ramp Vehicle access Description
Put-In Jordanelle Dam 5,878 Feet No No No All Vehicles

Follow old higway 40 to the base of the dam.  Right before the road crosses the river is a small dirt parking area on your right.  There are no boat ramps so river access is by foot only.  There is also a pit toilet here.

Put-In River Road North 5,705 Feet No No No All Vehicles

This parking lot can be found by turning south on River Road off of Highway 40.  Take the small spur to the dirt lot.  This area is mainly used by anglers but it could be used to get kayaks in or out of the river as well.

Put-In River Road South 5,690 Feet No No No All Vehicles

This is on the other side of River Road when compared to the River Road North access area.  This is another smaller lot with parking access.  No toilets, water or ramps available here as it's mainly used for fishing access.

Put-In Midway Lane North 5,503 Feet No No No All Vehicles

Take Ryan Rd. north off of Midway Lane.  This access point has a pit toilet and parking lot.

Put-In Midway Lane South 5,499 Feet No No No All Vehicles

Another good fishing access spot.

Take-Out Center Street Access 5,423 Feet No No No All Vehicles

Take center street south out of Midway.  Right before you get to Deer Creek reservoir is a small parking lot with a pit toilet.  If you decide to float to this point and take out here note that the river is channeled and braided and can make finding the take out from the river tough.  If you are here to fish there are plenty of options from the lake to the many river channels.
