Description

This is a nice run if you can hit it when the flows are right.  The scenery and wilderness feel to this part of the middle fork combined with stout class IV to V rapids should be on most advanced paddlers resumes (beginners need not apply).

This canyon has a high gradient drop but paddlers can still portage and scout when needed (unless the river is running at flood levels, then things get pushy and even more wild).

Kayaks are probably the best craft of choice on this creeky run.  Once you put on, there are no other access points until the take out so you are committed.  Be responsible and safe with your decision to be on this section of water.

There are currently no real time flow gauges for this part of the middle fork.  Your best chance for obtaining flow info is either from locals familiar with this area or by contacting the Placer County Water Agency.

Access

Type Name Elevation Camping Water Boat ramp Vehicle access Description
Put-In End of the World 2,620 Feet No No No All Vehicles

Take the Mosquito ridge road east from the Oxbow Dam area and wind through the hills for a while.  Take a right down to the Interbay Dam and follow it to the dam and the river.  A small lot below the dam has some parking and you will have to do a small carry down to the riverbank with your kayak.  Road is paved all the way though.

Take-Out Oxbow Picnic Area 1,210 Feet No No No All Vehicles

At the east end of the dam there is a small picnic area where the middle fork feeds into the reservoir.  Take out here.
