Description

High flows turn this run into a rompy class III while lower water brings a peaceful scenic float in beautiful Hoback Canyon.  Hazards include boulders, sweepers and logjams.

Right before the take out and confluence with the snake river is a nice wave to play on.  This can be a park and play destination when the water is flowing well.

Rapids

# Rapid Class Recommended flow Description Scout
1 Hoback Surf Wave III- to III+ 800–2,000

At high water levels a nice surf wave appears on river left.  Eddy service is on river left as well.  This eddy service can be tricky in catching this wave.  The wave has a tendency to spit you out the other side as well.  If you get in the wave you can carve back and forth as long as you can stand.

The river is a little shallow below the wave so if you go over tuck up and roll as quickly as you can.

Scout from the park and play.  Look just downstream and across the river from where the small parking area.
