Description

This run on the Chilliwack in BC is used often by Kayakers, Rafters and Fishermen.  It's a fairly friendly class III read and run float.  At higher water though the difficulty increases as the river loses some of the friendly eddies.  Your standard river hazards apply here.  Depending on water levels you should check for wood, sweepers or other hazards.  If in doubt make sure to scout anything you're unsure of.

The put-in and take-out described here definitely makes for a longer day but there are other put in and take out options if you want to shorten the run or skip certain sections.  Remember that when accessing the river, be respectful of land owners and never trespass.

Rapids

# Rapid Class Recommended flow Description Scout
1 Trailer Park III- to III —–—

When you see the trailer park on river right you will be entering the trailer park rapid.  Several holes and waves exist here.

You can scout from the road on river right if you desire

2 Tamihi III to IV- —–—

Just downstream of trailer park rapid is probably the biggest rapid on this section of the chilliwack.  The river makes several snake turns and passes under a bridge.  As this is happening the gradient of the river continues to drop making this a longer section of rapid with some blind turns.  You will need to stay on your toes.  This rapid gets bigger and harder at high water.

You can scout some of this rapid where the road crosses the river.
