Description
Smallish, but fun, waterfall directly around the corner from the take out for Round Valley, on the Weber River. Either park and huck or add this to the boring end of the Round Valley run. Height dependent on flows, but appears to average 6-10' drop. Left side is clean pour into hydraulic that is moderately retentive at lower flows and looks and feels nasty at higher flows. There is a sub-ledge that is boofable located just right of center. Look for large obvious notch in horizone line and shoot the middle of it. It will sometimes kick left, into the maw, so be careful. Also known as the Fairgronds Waterfall
Rapids
| # | Rapid | Class | Recommended flow | Description | Scout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Morgan Waterfall | III+ | 350–1,100 | Drop is located behind the fairgrounds |
Scout from the walk up. |
| 2 | Morgan Waterfall II | II+ to III+ | 1,100–— | This is the second in a set of three waterfalls, and the biggest of the three at about 15 feet. II is about a five minute float from the I, the first, 6' drop. |
Go right of the rock that splits the drop, but be prepared to go left quick as soon as you hit the bottom as the river wants to throw you into the bushes on the right. The back of the boat will get the biggest buck. |
| 3 | Morgan Waterfall III | II to III | 600–— | This third drop is about a ten minute float from Drop II. The 12 foot drop is usually the smoothest of the three, if with a little less splash than I or II. |
This one tends to change the most from season to season, so scout it out beforehand, but center-left is usually the best line here. Hit it straight, and it's a great ride. |
Access
| Type | Name | Elevation | Camping | Water | Boat ramp | Vehicle access | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Put-In | In | 5,075 Feet | No | No | No | All Vehicles | Take Morgan Exit off I-80 and follow signs to the fairgrounds. After driving parallel to the highway, you'll turn toward the river and find a gated private bridge. The dirt parking lot to the left of the bridge in front of old barn is the parking for the put in/take out. Walk behind the barn, through the opening in the fence and follow the two-track road east (upstream) to the dam. |
| Take-Out | Out | — | No | No | No | All Vehicles | Either eddy out river right below drop and hike the drop again or paddle to the take out just after bridge on river right. The bridge is low, so be careful in very high water. Passable at 1000 cfs. |
