Description
This is an interesting way to meet up with some raft support heading down the MFS. This river can be descended by kayak and is remote. There is a trail system that follows the Rapid River drainage for the bottom 6 or so miles down to the MFS. This gives kayakers the ability to run some or all of this portion of the canyon. Groups descending the MFS and camping near here could give you some time to up hike your kayak and float as much of this river as you like.
There is no guage for this river and you will need to rely on visual and local boater knowledge.
As with any small mountain river, scout and watch for log jams and other river traps. Remember when in doubt, eddy out.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Put-In | Rapid River Put-In | 5,895 Feet | No | No | No | High Clearance | Forest Service road or Rapid Creek Road crosses rapid creek near the Float creek confluence. You can put in here for the 13 mile run. If you want to knock some river time off in trade for drive time you can follow the rapid creek road another few miles to the Bruin Creek confluence and put in there. If you're going to run this you might as well run it from Float Creek and enjoy the scenery. To get here follow Highway 21 Northwest out of Stanley, ID. Where the highway bends and heads south turn right onto the seafoam/cape horn road. After a couple 1000 feet turn left onto Forrest Road 008 (Seafoam) towards the Beaver Creek Campground. Follow this road for a long way until you reach Forrest Road 285 (River Rapid Road). Take a right and after a mile or so you will cross the Rapid River and put in point for this run. |
