Description
The section below Tumalo State Park suffers from the same problem as the Riverhouse Run. Lot's of water upstream being diverted for irrigation makes for often dismal flows in the summer. Flow info can currently be obtained here (http://www.usbr.gov/pn-bin/graphrt.pl?debo_q).
This section isn't as intimidating as the upstream riverhouse run but does contain a mandatory portage at Awbrey Falls. See the rapids section for location and description of this. Awbrey is a class VI feature and something you don't want to end up floating down.
Other than Awbrey Falls, this is mainly a class III run in a small canyon. There is less population around this portion of river so the run has a more remote feel. As always watch for wood and any other hazards as you head down canyon.
Rapids
| # | Rapid | Class | Recommended flow | Description | Scout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Awbrey Falls | V+ to VI | 700–2,000 | A tight constriction in the river here creates some nasty water and hydraulics |
Mandatory portage on river right. |
| 2 | The White Mile Rapids | III- to III+ | 700–2,000 | Starting after Awbrey falls is some class III water lasting just under a mile. |
