Description
Fun but short daily run w/ amazing canyon scenery and good beaches for lunch stops. Mosquitos can be unruly at the put-in during spring run off. Rangers are frequent and ruthless about their rules.
Rapids
| # | Rapid | Class | Recommended flow | Description | Scout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Moonshine Rapid | II+ to III | 1,000–8,000 | This rapid begins almost immediately after you enter split mountain. It contains a fairly good sized hole across the river near the cliff on river right. At high water this rapid gets pretty big and can easily flip rafts that aren't lined up right. Even at lower flows, IK's and smaller craft can get worked in Moonshine. After the hole are some fun waves. Down river further is a large rock in the middle of the river. You can pass it on either side. Some class II water continues around the corner. Boat eating wave trains above 15k |
Line up and hit it. Scouting would be tough but could be done from the large eddy above the rapid on river left. There is no scout trail however. |
| 2 | S.O.B. Rapid | II+ to III+ | 1,000–8,000 | This rapid begins as the river turns and drops towards the left. At high flows a pretty good sized curler wave exists about 100 feet after you drop into the rapid. Once you are in the wave train, pull right to stay off the left hand wall as the river turns right again. |
