Whitewater Forum : Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? |
Author: AtomicMan Subject: Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 1:25pm Hey, I'm a paddler from CO and I just moved to the Olympic side of the sound. Liking the stuff I can find on this site and in the Bennett Book, but now that the water's flowing I'm itching to explore the Olympics. I've heard the rumors of the Korb book and even sent him a letter (address is in the Bennett Book), but haven't been able to find a copy yet... Anyone have one they'd be willing to part with, or know where I can get one? Help a newly local paddler out! Thanks ![]() |

Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 1:47pm http://www.amazon.com/A-paddlers-guide-Olympic-Peninsula/dp/B0006FA310 I have a copy but it is currently lost somewhere in the stacks of Berenstain Bears and Thomas the Train Books.I have changed up my reading lately to something more captivating for my attention span. Make sure you hit up a few of the OP boaters on this site too, many that frequent this haunt are out an about a lot but not the most overt in their attempt to relish in hi profile media coverage of the days adventure. |

Whitewater Forum : Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? |
Author: AtomicMan Subject: Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 2:07pm Nice! I think I stumbled on these a while ago and being the newly employed post-college guy I am, I figured I could probably find one for cheaper than $140. If nobody comes through with one I might spring for it though... If you find that copy somewhere in the pile of Berenstein Bears and Thomas the Train Books and wanted to get a little money for it, let me know! Yeah, I'm hoping to hit up some OP boaters, or really from anywhere. I'll be around on this site a lot more now Cheers |

Whitewater Forum : Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? |
Author: jalmquist Subject: Paddler's Guide to the Olympic? Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 3:04pm Keep an eye out at used book stores. A few years ago I found a copy of the 3rd edition in a Poulsbo used book store for $5. Extra credit if you can find a copy of the hand-written first edition. What it lacks in breadth and accuracy is more than made up for in character. |

Author: Jed Hawkes Subject: Lost paddle on Big Q Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 3:22pm Hey Josh, we were in there on Sunday evening and didn't come across anything like that. What rapid did it happen in? I'd say it's likely that it went all the way down to the braided channels at those flows. |

Whitewater Forum : Lost paddle on Big Q |
Author: JSheldon Subject: Lost paddle on Big Q Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 4:36pm Thanks for the reply Jed, I think you guys must have been there right before us, because we didn't get out till almost/at dark. It was either the second or third rapid in the gorge after Landslide #1. The one with the recirculating ledge hole on the right and then you had to move back to the left and exit between a rock and the wall (I came out of my seat and cleaned Dan and I out of the boat @ the exit). If you make it back and find them, I have beer and/or cash for you! Thanks, Josh 503-926-1800 |

Whitewater Forum : Beckler today? |
Author: jP Subject: Beckler today? Posted: 18 Nov 2015 at 7:21pm yeah ahe segment of which you speak is mostly runnable. (Lower Tye). Another chunk I want to explore next time its flooding is the Upper Upper South Fork Sky. That's from the Foss/Tai confluence down to HWY 2 bridge (look for the 'Merican flag). Better acces may be found at the next bridge downstream, though, by the Beckler Confluence. Speaking of the Beckler, I didnt end up going. By sunday I was satisfied with my weekend's accomplishment. Saturday BP joined me for my long awaited Big Eddy to Everett trip. I have always wanted to complete this 41mi trip in a day. It was about 32,600cfs when we launched at Big Eddy, and took us about 4.5hrs of steady paddling. We did float some once we figured out we were averaging 10mi/hr. It was casual and I would do it again knowing that strong current delivered us all the way to the take out. Only breifly at the Snohomish Confluence where the Sky and Snoqualmie join did the water seem sluggish and static. It picked up immediately below the 522 bridge though. I won't go on about it here but there will be a bump on my other thread. |
